Harvesting our tea is but one part of our process. So much more goes into producing your Lipton® tea.
The Art of Blending
Did you know a single Lipton® tea bag can contain up to 40 different types of tea? This is thanks to tea blending. It's from blending that we draw our subtle tones and flavours. No two teas are ever the same, even when drawn from the same estate. Tea plucked on a wet day is different from that produced on a dry day. As a result, it's not unusual for a tea garden to produce teas of different qualities throughout the course of a single season.
Without a doubt, blending teas is an art. That's why we draw on the talents of Unilever's Brooke Bond Ltd., a group of experts specializing in tea blending. Thanks to their skills, Lipton® is able to provide you with some of the finest tea blends the world has to offer.
Our Professional Tea Tasters
Yes, it's a real job. Not a bad one, huh? At Lipton®, we have a team of expert Tea Tasters highly skilled in the art and science of tea. It's their job to sample teas and ensure they are blended to Lipton's high standards. When sampling teas, they consider every quality of a cup of tea including taste, smell, and colour. To taste tea, our experts slurp it to the back of their throats to "atomize it", allowing them to taste and smell simultaneously. They spend no more than a few seconds on any single tea since they must evaluate hundreds of samples a day.
Tea Tasters have such finely tuned palates, they can determine the manufacturing method, quality and value of the tea - sometimes even the tea estate! All that from a single taste.
Thanks to such refined quality control, your tea arrives exactly as intended.
